Internationality in Porvoo with European Volyntary Service and Youth Service

Arrival training in Kokkola

European Voluntary Service is a voluntary action, for a period of 2 to 12 months in a foreign country for young people between 18 to 30 years. Completely funded by Europe. Volunteering can be done in many different areas: youth work, prevention, environmental protection, culture, etc.

We are Clémence (20, France) and Daniel (21, Hungary) and we work in youth houses in Porvoo until 28 of February. We came to Finland to be part of a new adventure and gain experience.

On the week, 2013.09.20 - 2013.09.27, we had a meeting in Kokkola with all of those who works in Finland as a volunteer from abroad. We were 64 youths who came from all over Europe: Spain, Germany, France, Turkey, Belarus, Estonia, Norway, Hungary, Bosnia, Morocco, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Austria. It was an arrival training to be prepared of our work and get known what voluntary is. It was also for find new friends who lives all over Finland and an opportunity to travel and visit them later. Although we were 64 people, there was a good atmosphere between us.

The program was so intensive almost every day from the morning till the free evening times. We could take part of many activities like: team building activities, presentation of volunteering, Finnish language course, nature program, games, sauna evening and we visited the Arctic museum and the city of Kokkola.

We mustn’t to forget the meal times: 5 meals per day, we ate a lot but the food was good.
On the workshop times, we’ve learned many useful things for our work in the youth centers.
The training was very nice because we met people who are all in almost the same situation like we, shared our opinions and view of life, it’s always instructive.
