On Saturday (18.01.14) Gammelbacka’s
Youth Center, Kertsi organized an immigrants’ evening, called Matchpoint.
In Porvoo there’re many immigrants from all over the world. They learn finnish, work, study here, they really try to fit. As I can see Finland really invests energy in the well living of the people who moved here from abroad, supports them, offers work, free studies opportunity, etc.

Me and Clémence are from abroad here for
volunteering, and although it’s just a short period of living here, we also
have some experience about how is it like to be far away from our home country,
family members, friends and all of the memories what we left there. I think
it’s something similar for the others too.
This evening in Kertsi was about to offer a
place where they are able to meet each other, share their experience, feelings
and see how the other people can manage their life here or simply just spend a
good time together. For finnish children it wasn’t available to enter that
evening to Kertsi.
Our voluntary project is about to end soon, we
have a little bit more than 1 month here. For the other volunteers in Finland
there’s a midterm meeting in Sipoo so some of our friends beyond them came here
after that for the weekend. Three Spanish girls, an Italian girl, and a German
boy. Because of we were invited to this event in Kertsi we decided to go there
with them. We had a really good time and a nice opportunity to play on African
drums and be with other people from abroad.
I think we all could draw strength from this
evening for our remaining time in Finland. I really recommend for everybody to
visit these events in any of Porvoo city’s youth houses.
See you in Youth houses!
